The console of an organ is the organist’s workplace. It consists of the manuals and the pedalboard on which the organist actually plays as well as the stop knobs or switches used for changing registers, arranged in a logical order, and all the other controls which are placed so that they are easily accessible for the player.

The way in which a console is designed also provides us with information concerning the overall style of the organ.

The manual keyboards are made of fine-grained spruce, and the key overlays are designed to harmonise with the overall concept of the organ.

The pedalboard is also designed to match the individual style of the instrument.

Lighting elements are fitted as unobtrusively as possible or, in the case of restoration work on historic organs, the lighting is arranged outside the instrument so as not to disturb the overall aesthetics.
